So it seems that I have neglected my poor little blog recently. I have a bad habit of doing that! I guess that means it's time for a giant catch-up post.
Let's see ...
At the beginning of June I started working a contract position at Pfizer in St. Louis. They are a leading player in the pharmaceutical industry, and a great company to work for. I am being exposed to lots of new techniques and experiences, and it's been a lot of fun to figure out how things work in industry versus academia. Unfortunately, I am not a regular employee, but rather a contracted resource, which means lower pay and no benefits. My contract is scheduled for 9-12 months, so sometime between March and June, I'll be moving on. If I'm lucky, I'll get picked up off of the contract into a regular position. As a back-up, I'm making some overtures in a different direction, but it's kind of a secret for now.
Bob is trucking along. He's still working at Chartis Insurance (formerly AIG). Since I don't have benefits right now, he has to stay there and put off seminary for a while. I feel bad for him, because I know that he is ready to move forward, but there is no way we can be without insurance. We are just going to hang in there and wait for the next door to open.
My brother got married in July. Our summer was incredibly mild, temperature-wise, except for the weekend of his wedding, of course! He has finished his contract with the Army, and is now in school. I'll be sure to post some pictures later on.
My sister was re-hired at the factory where she used to work. The economy shut them down for a while, but now things are up and going again. Afton is happy because she has her insurance back. She also just moved into her first apartment. It's so weird to think of her as being a grown-up with her own place. It sure makes me feel old!
I will definately try to be better about updating my site from now on.
