Lazy summer weekend

Bob and I spent the weekend at his Grandparent's house. They live in the middle of nowhere about an hour away from Springfield right on a lake. It is one of the prettiest houses I've ever seen. Grandpa is constantly doing some sort of landscaping project!
It was such a nice weekend. We were completely out of contact with the outside world since Grandma and Grandpa don't have the internet and our cell phones have no reception. It was creepy to not know what was happening, but relaxing too. The weather was absolutely AMAZING! Despite it being the middle of August, the temperature never got over 85 and there was very low humidity.

We spent some time picking peaches off of the trees in the backyard. I made Bob reach the high ones! We got several bags full to take home and freeze. I love peaches!

We also had a big Saturday night, which we spent at the Wal-Mart. Let me tell you, it was old school. It may have been the smallest Wal-Mart I have ever seen! We went so that we could show Grandpa how to print pictures off of his digital camera. One problem, he hadn't done it in over two years. Seriously! There were 154 pictures that he wanted printed. We started to get them printing on the machine, and wouldn't you know it the darn thing breaks! It took an hour to get them all printed! Good times.

Anyway, Bob and I left early Sunday morning, and since it was so beautiful, we decided to stop at the State Fair before we went home. It was the perfect day to go because the weather was just unbelievable. We had a great time watching the DockDogs play around in their big pool. I'm pretty sure that Schlafly would love to do that, so we may look into it.

We also saw the Butter Cow. If you have never been to a State Fair in the midwest, it may seem strange, but it is what it is. Every year someone sculpts a huge cow out of butter. It's really cool looking because it's very detailed, but I know, I know, it's weird.

Bob got all excited when he saw an exhibit of WWII things. There were trucks and tents and guns and K Rations and lots of other stuff. Apparently a group of collectors get together and put on these displays at various events using their personal items. I think Bob has a new goal in life!

All-in-all, it was a wonderful weekend. Bob and I don't get to have too much time to ourselves, so when we do, it is really special. I sometimes forget how nice it is to just talk with him about something that doesn't involve church or work or the random drama in our families. It really was a refreshing way to prepare ourselves for the onslaught that is about to begin.
